Color Your Summer

5 EASY CARE FLOWERS FOR COLOR ALL SUMMER LONG

Yes, June has arrived.  Summer will officially be here in a couple of weeks.  So, the big question concerns planting.  Yes, we can still be planting.  We got some good soaking rain the middle of May which was much needed.  Our soil temperature is now at 70 degrees.  Bottom line, to be successful with planting this time of year is all about watering.  You want to soak every plant while it is still in the pot.  You want to water as you plant.  And, then you need to stay on top of watering.  Best way to water is by hand.  A good slow soaking.  The best time to plant would be early in the morning or in the evening  –  preferably not during the heat of the day.

Now, with all this watering out of the way.  Let’s get down to business at hand about planting easy care flowers for summer color.

To be happy with your selection of annuals it is all about “right plant / right location.  There are wonderful annuals that thrive in full sun and then there are annuals that thrive in shade.

Here is my list of favorite annuals for both in sun and in shade:

SUN ANNUALS

  1. Lantana
  2. Angelonia
  3. Salvia
  4. Dahlia
  5. Zinnia

SHADE ANNUALS

  1. Browallia
  2. Sunpatien
  3. Tuber Begonia
  4. Diamond Frost Euphorbia
  5. Torenia

You may notice some very common annuals not making my top five list such as marigolds, petunias, impatiens, geraniums, coleus, vincas – just to name a few.  My mission with eliminating these annuals from my top five list is to get you to “expand your horizon” when it comes to selecting annauls.

Enjoy adding some color in June.  This is still a very good time to plant.

PLANT A LITTLE HAPPINESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
